Berlin Beauty
Menschen und Gesichter repräsentieren und hinterlassen einen Eindruck. Sie kreieren einen “Look” und
den Rhythmus einer Stadt. Neben Architektur, Geschichte, Politik und Landschaft sind sie der prägende
und lebendige Teil einer Stadt. Sie sind Spiegel der Stadt, wie die Stadt auch der ihre ist.
Bestimmend für das 2011 initiierte Langzeitprojekt war anfänglich die Beobachtung, dass das zeitge-
nössische Berlin als eine Stadt ständiger Dekonstruktion, Rekonstruktion und Fluktuation eine starke An-
ziehungskraft und Ausstrahlung ausübt. Hierbei sind es vor allem die Widersprüche und Brüche, welche
die Stadt im ständigen Wandel außergewöhnlich machen und zu einer Auseinandersetzung über Schön-
heit und Hässlichkeit herausfordern. Hinzu kommen die Weite und Offenheit städtischer Infrastruktur,
die Möglichkeiten experimenteller Schönheit zulassen. Nach 15 Jahren in Paris, einer Stadt der konser-
vativen und festgelegten “Postkartenschönheit”, suche ich das Gesicht meiner Wahlstadt zu erforschen,
die geprägt durch die Gegensätze lebendig wird und ein unkonventionelles und unprätentiöses
Schönheitsideal formt.

towards a city that is defined by constant deconstruction, reconstruction and fluctuation. Often in Berlin,
you can find both uglyness and beauty occurring at the same moment and place. It is this contradiction
which makes the city exceptional and challenging. Next to this Berlins vast and undefined spaces give
the opportunity to experience beauty by experimenting with it. Having spent fifteen years in Paris, a city
defined by its so-called „postcard beauty“, I am on the quest to explore the living face of a city that
becomes vivid through the contrasts which form an unconventional and unpretentious beauty.
